Sig Files - Getting It All Together
So let's put it all together and see what exactly happens.
You send out email with a sig file. The recipient sees your
message, reads your sig file and decides to subscribe.
S/he may click on
- the website link and sign up on your website or
- on the "mailto:" link which opens up their email program. If
you code the link correctly, the ezine sign-up address will
automatically be included in the "TO:" field of the email
message. All the reader needs to do is hit the SEND button !
You can even have a SUBJECT line inserted automatically. Some
ezine distribution programs require a specific subject line in
order to act on the sign-up message and add the address to
your distribution list.
Another reason for doing this is to help you in tracking the
source of your new sign-ups. You'll hear more on this in the
next section.
Power Tips:
1. Make your URL clickable by adding the "http://" prefix.
In most email programs, this will allow readers to simply
click on the link and get to your website.
2. Make your email address clickable as well. By inserting a
"mailto:" in front of your email address, you make it easier
for readers to send you email. My email address is
'thb-editor@drmani.com' and the "mailto:" before this again
helps make it a clickable link in many email programs.
