Sell More, Boost Revenue & Dominate Your Market!
Every business on the Internet that wants to establish a leadership position, grow sales and market share, or build a strong brand must consider hiring specialist marketers to help with areas they don't have expertise in. As an Internet infopreneur coach, I often have conversations with students that begin, "But Dr.Mani, you're an expert. I'm not. I don't understand what to do."
And so I guide them about working with outside experts or an online marketing agency to take their business to a higher level.
What Can An Online Marketing Agency Do For Your Business?
Broadly speaking, a team of outside experts will evaluate your business and current online presence, review your goals and targets, and craft a plan of action designed to take you closer to them quickly and efficiently.
The areas that a marketing agency will impact include:
- brand
- web & graphic design
- marketing strategy
- public relations
- social media strategy
- mobile marketing
The best agencies are results-driven, will provide integrated services so that you won't need to shop around for multiple providers, and even put creative minds to work on coming up with your winning plan. These experts will start with analysis and planning before outlining your action plan for strategic Internet marketing.
They will then aid you (or guide you) on taking the steps to implement it. And if you need ongoing support or consulting with your Internet web site marketing as your business grows, they can provide that as well.
The 3 areas an outside marketing specialist team is most frequently tasked with are:
- 1. acquiring new customers
- 2. generating more leads or prospects and
- 3. branding the business or company
A Web marketing agency will plan and carry out a set of specific actions in the pursuit of these goals, including:
- online media buying
- ad planning
- banner and PPC advertising
- interactive ads
- search engine optimization (SEO)
- email promotions
- web development and design
... and more.
How To Hire An Online Marketing Agency
Now it goes without saying that with so many elements of a marketing process falling within the scope of an Internet marketing company, not all entities that promote themselves as such can actually deliver value in every area. Indeed there are quite a few scammers who only are interested in your money.
So how to tell if an online marketing agency is worth hiring or working with?
Well, the best way is still to get personal endorsements and recommendations from someone you know and trust, especially when they have found a solution for a similar need as you are now facing. But if that isn't an option, here are a few signals that can indicate a particular company or agency is reliable and credible.
Read Their Blogs
Most online marketing agencies that walk their talk will blog actively. After all, chances are they will be advising you to blog for a variety of good reasons... and it only makes sense that they follow their own suggestion. Browsing through their blog posts will give you a fair indication of their expertise and skill, as well as the value they might be able to add to your organization.
How Social Are They?
In today's social network centered virtual world, an online marketing agency without a significant social media presence is really hard to take seriously. Follow the agency or its people on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn or Google+ and see how they behave and relate to their audience.
Seek Innovation or Leadership
Is the Web marketing company you plan to hire staffed by thought leaders and innovators who have brought powerful and effective concepts to the marketplace? Or do they employ drones who mindlessly carry out repetitive marketing tasks? Both may have a role to play in the marketplace - but only one will be suitable for your needs!
Look for Proof
An online marketing agency which has already cut its teeth in the rough-and-tumble of a brutally competitive online marketplace will doubtlessly have some success stories under its belt. And unless they are unduly shy and reticent, most of these stories will be emblazoned across their network in the form of customer testimonials, celebrity client lists and case studies. Studying them will give you a good idea of their credentials.
Publicity Counts
How often an online marketing agency is in the news, quoted by authorities and is seen at industry conventions and leading conferences can count to an extent in judging their credibility and authenticity. However, some of these firms may well be all bluster and hot air, so be wary of valuing this factor alone in isolation.
Explore Their Website
Remember that these are experts who will be guiding you on how to structure your online presence. The best way to evaluate their skill and ability to do this well is to look at how functional, appealing and well-designed their own website is. If you find it engaging, pleasing and easy to navigate, then it's a fair shot that the online marketing agency behind it will be able to guide you about creating a similar experience for your own clients.
Google Them
In fact, go further and search for the agency on other search engines also - and even look on related terms that their clients are likely to use. If the marketing agency is good, they should rank their own site well on key terms that their business is based upon. You wouldn't hire a marketing agency that you cannot find on the first 3 pages of Google for their own top keywords, would you?
All of these are indicative signals of the efficiency and skill of a marketing agency. Other soft factors like the branding of their online presence, press and media mentions, industry contributions and research publications, being listed in 'top 10' compilations, or buzz about their capabilities on social networks may all contribute to your final choice.
When you've chosen well, your chances of being richly rewarded by way of better branding, more sales and higher visibility in the marketplace go up exponentially. But you still need to keep a close watch on your results and evolve a set of metrics to monitor your progress. And if you notice that your online marketing agency is not helping you make the impact you hoped for, then it may be time to drop them and move on.
