Step #8 - Make Joining And Leaving Your List A Breeze - For Users
Unless you make it extremely easy for users to sign up for your ezine, you'll
lose many potential readers.
Create an easy-to-use, convenient registering system that makes visitors feel
secure about giving you their email address. You can make sure that you
capture the email address of every interested visitor to your ezine sign up
page by using the following steps:
1. Offer multiple options to sign up
At the very least, you must have
- a simple web based form for visitors to enter their name and email address
- and for visitors without forms-capable browsers, an email address to write
to
See a working example of such an ezine sign up page that we use for our free
newsletter, Ezine Launch Monthly. Visit
http://www.EzineMarketingCenter.com/ezlmonthly/
And while you're there, why don't you sign up for our ezine too. It's free and
you get a value-packed info-product on ezine publishing delivered right to your
email box once every month. Try it - you can always unsubscribe if you don't
like it!
2. Think out-of-the-box.
Embed your ezine subscription details in various locations - discussion list
postings, bulletin board messages, your email signature file, even offline
promotions.
3. Collect demographic data to tailor your content and offers
Gathering some information about your list members can help when you
contact partners for joint ventures or advertisers to sponsor your ezine. But
asking for too many details may scare your readers away.
Learn exactly how
to collect demographic data from your readers from Lesson 13.3 in Ezine
Launch (Gathering more demographic data from subscribers pg.115)
4. Let Readers Opt-in Twice Over
Get readers to confirm their request (double opt-in). By having subscribers re-confirm
their intention to sign up for your ezine, you can avoid later messy
complaints and also enhance the value of your list for marketing efforts.
To read an article on the benefits of a double opt-in sign up policy published in our free newsletter, Ezine Launch Monthly visit our articles archive at

Or you can request a copy from our autoresponder by sending an email to

5. Handle removal requests promptly and politely
Nothing irritates readers more than receiving an ezine they don't want. As
ezine publisher, you don't want to annoy your subscribers. Ensure a smooth,
polite process to handle requests to be removed from your list. (See Lesson
13.4 and 13.5 in Ezine Launch to discover how you professionally deal with
unsubscribe requests and the warning signs that tell you in advance that
trouble is brewing.).
