If you have good oral habits and generally enjoy good oral health then you really don't need dental insurance. Most dental insurance companies have annual limits, high premiums, long waiting periods, minimum deductibles and so on.
I would suggest you put the money you plan on paying as premium in a bank account that earns a good interest. It can be some kind of term deposit where you can pay monthly a fixed amount. Don't touch the money unless it is for a dental treatment. Even if you pay in just $25 monthly. You will be sitting on small nest egg at the end of a few years when you really need dental treatment.
Believe me dental insurance companies aren't going to pay anything more than this. In fact as an insurance holder you will be paying vastly inflated costs.
You can negotiate better deals with your dentist yourself when the time comes for treatment.
If you need dental treatment now then get yourself a dental discount plan from a reputed company with a good track record. They offer discounts on treatment up front and you are saved from the hassles of waiting periods, deductibles, annual limits.
I myself have followed this plan for the last 10 years. I have a GE wellness plan from Dental plans. (Here's a link if you would like to check it out - http://www.a1-dental-insurance... I am quite satisfied with it.
Also, I have accumulated $3300 dollars in my dental treatment account.
First, you need to find dental insurance policies that are not mutually exclusive. That is they should not refuse to pay if you are covered under another plan.
Usually, if both spouses get dental benefits from their respective employers than you can avail of the benefits from both plans. You may even get 100 percentage cover for dental problems in such a case.
It may not be really beneficial to buy two dental insurance plans on your own as the premiums you will be paying will be quite substantial. The benefits will not be much as there will be annual limits, exclusion clauses, waiting periods and minimum deductibles to pay.
What you can do is get a dental discount plan which offers substantial discounts on dental treatment costs and use it where necessary. I do that for those treatments not covered under my dental insurance it works great for me.
Buy the dental plan from a trusted and known company that has been in business for long. Here's one I used - http://www.a1-dental-insurance.com.
or I am sure you can find something else that suits your needs.
