Your Questions - Our Answers To burning Dental Insurance Problems

What does a person with no job, no money and no dental insurance do when they have a dental emergency? What are their options?

1. If it is a dental emergency then most dentists will do the work and bill you later. Check out if your local dentist will do this.

2. If you fall below the certain income level then you will be eligible for medicaid. Find out if your state provides for medicaid and with dental problems are covered under this.

3. If your teeth no longer hurt then get a job and start saving to get your teeth fixed. But if you teeth hurt really bad and you don't have any money nor access to medicaid or government funded dental care then your only option may be to get your teeth extracted.

4. Your local public health center may have dental treatment facilities. Phone them and ask where and when you can get free or low-cost dental treatment.

5. Join the military, they have free medical and dental care.

6. Make enquiries with your local dentist about payment plans. Many dentists are offering payment plans such as "Care Credit" to help with payment of heft dental treatment charges. If you have good credit rating this is an excellent option to consider. They offer interest free payment option for the first 18 months.

This great option allows you to get treatment now and pay over a period of year and half with no interest. Great for low-income people who need expensive treatment in a hurry.

Waiting for long periods can be bad for your teeth. The tooth can go completely bad and become unsaveable and needs to be extracted/pulled. This can cause other teeth to drift and considerably lessen your chewing ability.

Since, you have no dental insurance you can shop around and find who has Care Credit or another payment plan. If you find an office that can offer you a better payment option, you can have your x-rays and other info sent from your current dentist.

Usually, dentists won't offer this option to total strangers.

7. Putting off dental work only makes it more expensive doawn the road. A quick fix is have an extraction with some borrowed money from family. Once you find a job you can save up for a bridge or what ever treatment recommended by your dentist.

A bad tooth is a sure recipe for more pain, infection, absess, agony.

8. Check out the local dental school in your area. Students usually perform these sevices that take longer are cheaper.

9. Check out other community health options in your area which might be working on a sliding fee schedules. They can be state wide or county specific.

10. Talk to your dentist. Explain your situation. They are human too and might do the work for payment later.. Talk to the billing people at your dentist office. Ask if you can make very small monthly payments and increase it as soon as you find a job.

11. Last but not the least explore the dental discount plan option. It may save a lot of dollars in discounts on expensive dental treatment.

Good Luck.
