First, you need to find dental insurance policies that are not mutually exclusive. That is they should not refuse to pay if you are covered under another plan.
Usually, if both spouses get dental benefits from their respective employers than you can avail of the benefits from both plans. You may even get 100 percentage cover for dental problems in such a case.
It may not be really beneficial to buy two dental insurance plans on your own as the premiums you will be paying will be quite substantial. The benefits will not be much as there will be annual limits, exclusion clauses, waiting periods and minimum deductibles to pay.
What you can do is get a dental discount plan which offers substantial discounts on dental treatment costs and use it where necessary. I do that for those treatments not covered under my dental insurance it works great for me.
Buy the dental plan from a trusted and known company that has been in business for long. Here's one I used - http://www.a1-dental-insurance.com.
or I am sure you can find something else that suits your needs.
