Shocking! Unaccepatable! Impossible!

These are some of the words that came to my mind when I heard about the death of young boy due to dental related infections. The boy had been suffering from infected gums and other teeth problems for quite sometime but his mother did not have the required dental insurance to get him treated.

The little dental cover she had under her medicaid cover was not accepted by most dentists in her area. By the time she found a dentist who would accept it, her son's condition had worsened. His infection got worse and spread to his brain. He was being treated for these complications. But his body already weakened due to tooth infections that he had been suffering for a long time could not take it any longer and he died.

What a shame!

That this should happen in the most powerful, most civilized, most developed and one of the richest countries in the world is unacceptable.

The death of the youngster has had one positive outcome though. A couple of Senators who heard about it have introduced a bill seeking increased spending on dental cover. The teenager's death will hopefully galvanise our lawmakers to make provisions so that similar incidents never happen again.
