What is the Blogathon?

Blogathon is an attempt to harness the force uniting hundreds of bloggers together. Pledges are gathered from friends, family, fellow webloggers, and occasionally total strangers, all of whom sponsor a blogger just as they might sponsor someone in a walk-a-thon.

Founded in 2001 by Portland, Oregon resident Cat Connor, Blogathon is a revolutionary internet charity drive where sponsors pledge money based on how long they think the participants can last in an all-day, all-night, website updating marathon.

With last year's event drawing over two hundred websites and more than $50,000 in donations, Blogathon keeps readers riveted with entries from its many writers, all of whom are raising money and awareness for their own individual charities.

Entries range from the personal to the hilarious to the downright exhausted, with some people posting serialized novellas, telling a retrospective biography via photograph, or even streaming their own live radio broadcasts to garner attention and more sponsor dollars!

This year, I was blogging on the behalf of my Childrens' Heart Foundation, to raise money to sponsor heart surgery for as many kids as possible.

  SO HOW DID WE DO?

  JUST FANTASTIC!

  Donations and sponsorships are still pouring in. Many of you didn't stop after just contributing. You went ahead and told friends about it.

  And they donated too. And told more friends...

  When I last checked we had received over $9,100.00 in contributions towards the Heart Kids Fund.

  This means we will be able to fully sponsor heart surgery for
  at least THREE poor children - maybe even MORE.

   

  We can do better. It could be more.

  WOULD YOU DO THIS AGAIN?

  We've taken the first step. There are still many more children waiting for life-saving heart surgery. I'm going to keep trying to help as many as possible.

  And I'm inviting YOU to join me.

  If you'd like to make a regular donation - on an anniversary, or a special day, or even once a month - towards helping save a heart kid, here's how you can.

  Each heart operation requires around $3000. I'm forming teams - called "Dr.Mani's Heart Kid Circles" - each with 12 members.

  Every Circle Member contributes $20 a month. Or if you'd rather prefer an annual donation, $240 a year. 240 x 12 = $2880. I'll contribute the rest.

  Each circle will sponsor one heart kid for surgery every year.

  Every month (or year) the amount will automatically be transferred from your PayPal account or charged to your credit card. And once a year, a child with heart birth defects will get a new lease on life -
