It's been a long day - and night

We've come a long, long way in our "story of memetic evolution".

I hope you enjoyed - and gained some value - from this description. I certainly had fun telling you about it.

Memes are never constant. They are in constant flux. They spread from one alert, agile, creative mind to another.

Enhancing both giver and receiver.

If what I've shared with you has had its intended impact, you too will become a zoomer.

Or think of becoming one.

When that happens, this story of memetic evolution will have its second chapter written.

It's the journey, not the destination

As Mani Thinketh:Memtastic - Dr.Mani's really FANTASTIC memes!

It's the journey, not the destination

My fingers are numb, swollen.

My back is hunched over, stiff.

My eyes are bleary, bloodshot.

I've been sitting in front of my laptop almost round the clock. 23 hours and counting.

Writing. Posting. Meeting deadlines.

Watching hundreds of others do the same.

To meet a goal, reach a target, help a charitable cause.

Why do they (we) do it?

What makes events like Blogathon 2003 possible?

The love of action, the sense of purpose, the process of doing something vital to helps others.

What about the 100's who haven't raised much money today? Are they feeling sad or frustrated?

Hopefully not. Because it isn't where you get, but what you do getting there that matters above all else. It isn't the destination, it's the journey.

It's not where you are, but how you got there.

This is one of my real fantastic memes - one I hope you will get infected with. And pass along to others too.

For more, there's Memtastic!

An Abundant Universe

As Mani Thinketh:Memtastic - Dr.Mani's really FANTASTIC memes!

The Abundant Universe

Mark Victor Hansen is well known for his series of "Chicken Soup" books. He recently authored "One Minute Millionaire".

It transferred a powerful meme to my mind.

The Abundance Hypothesis.

Many of us are conditioned to think of the Universe as a place of limited resource, where competition for what's left is cut-throat, and one person's victory necessarily involves another's defeat.

The meme I picked up from Mark Victor Hansen's book is that the contrary view is real.

The Universe offers unlimited opportunity, resources, everything. It all exists for the asking. We don't always ask, or seek, or want. When we do, we receive.

A simple meme - but one with the force to change the way you look at everything.

Your very life included!

May you live in abundance...

Take Time Off

Relaxing is just as important as working.

I've seen folks obsessed about what they're doing, they let everything else pass by the wayside.

And when they finally wake up to reality, they find their life has passed by.

Work is important.

Relaxing is equally so.

Taking time off to spend with family, friends or simply on your own can enhance productivity enormously.

Why I Zoom...

He Said It:Seth Godin

Do YOU Have An "eMarketing Trendz" Prediction?Share it with us. Email it to me - I'll even post it with a link to your site if it's great!

Seth Godin on Memetic Evolution

It's pretty late.

Not the right time to be rambling.

Let's keep it simple. Just a quote - one that'll keep you thinking!

"The speed of memetic evolution is now the speed of our evolution. The faster we can spread and change our memes, the faster our systems evolve."

- from "Survival is not enough" by Seth Godin

As Mani Thinketh:Memtastic - Dr.Mani's really FANTASTIC memes!

Why I zoom...

Evolution involves a constant shuffling of small units to recreate an organism or entity using various combinations of them. It is a rather random, hit-or-miss system, capable of producing magnificent results - or ending in total waste.

With unpredictable frequency.

You could make a strong case for NOT evolving memetically since the chances are high that you may fail.

But then, staying constant is a GUARANTEED way to fail as well.

And while you may not fail, you certainly will NOT succeed wildly by doing the same things the same way for a long time to come!

On the other hand, experimenting with the new and untested has one very big advantage.

You might succeed wildly.

That thought will be enough to keep entrepreneurial minds like mine trying to constantly change and innovate.

Do YOU Zoom? Why not? Click here.

Positioning Thinking

He Said It:George Bernard Shaw

A Quote To Make You Think

It's pretty late.

Not the right time to be rambling.

Let's keep it simple. Just a quote - one that'll keep you thinking!

This is the true joy in life, the being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; the being a force of Nature instead of a feverish, selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy. - George Bernard Shaw

As Mani Thinketh:Memtastic - Dr.Mani's really FANTASTIC memes!

Positioning Thinking

People have fixed ideas. Once fixed, points of view are hard to change.

The way to be known as a top brand is to get mindshare - FIRST.

I've learned this by hard experience. I published ezines since 1996. But I launched the Ezine Marketing Center later - after others had established a position as expert e-publishers.

Rule: Don't make the same mistake twice.

When I made the decision to move away from ezines towards blogs, I realized the blogosphere was full of experts.

What were they NOT doing?

Answer: Running their blogs profitably.

That became my niche. With my book, "33 Blog Profit Ideas", my *profitable* blog, "remarkably purple spots..." and this Heart Kids Blogathon raising over $4000, I've established a position.

Dr.Mani blogs profitably.

Time will tell if that position remains mine :)

Position yourself first - in your prospect's mind!

The Force is with us...

As Mani Thinketh:Memtastic - Dr.Mani's really FANTASTIC memes!

The Force is with us...

My friend, Paul Myers, is editor of TalkBiz News.

One of the most ethical, honest, respected marketing experts, Paul is widely listened to - because he calls it as he sees it.

And here's what he had to say in a SPECIAL ISSUE of his newsletter.

That's the power of doing the right thing!

TalkBiz News

-----===(*)===-----
Special Issue
-----===(*)===-----

Hi, folks...

You may have heard of Dr. Mani Sivasubramanian. Over the past few years, he's become sort of a hero for me. Not because of his marketing knowledge, which is certainly there, but rather, because of why he does what he does.

Mani is a pediatric heart surgeon in India. That means he saves lives. The lives of children with congenital heart defects.

It's his life and his passion and his purpose.

That's a hero worth the name, as far as I'm concerned.

Mani is having a Blog-a-thon to raise money to pay for surgeries for some of these children. You can see what's going on, and contribute (via credit card or PayPal) - at:

http://www.EzineMarketingCenter.com/blog/

Hint: Got any spare change laying around in a PayPal account that you wouldn't miss? =];-}=-

Mani tells me that as little as $3000 can pay for one of these surgeries in India. $3000 to save a kid's life. That's the best deal going, folks.

It sure is. So GIVE - Help a Heart Kid Live...

The Proof of the Pudding...

Guru Speak:Yanik Silver, Instant Internet Profits

Do YOU Have An "eMarketing Trendz" Prediction?Share it with us. Email it to me - I'll even post it with a link to your site if it's great!

The next trend I'll be jumping on is giving affiliates free content that pays them. Check out - www.viralebookcreator.com and you'll see this is a web application that lets our affiliates "brand" viral PDF ebooks on the fly. Then affiliates can use them as bonuses, give them away or even sell these ebooks -- and the best part is, each link makes them money inside.

The Proof of the Pudding...

In the previous post, I said:

"I've noticed that when my effort is targeted towards a GOOD cause, it almost always succeeds."

I set out 19 hours ago, when this Heart Kids Blogathon started, with the aim of getting $3000 in sponsorships to help a child have life-saving heart surgery.

And frankly, I estimated my chances at getting it to be 50-50

With around 5 hours left in the event, I have with me donations and/or pledges worth $4011 - and promises of announcements to several large mailing lists in support of this blogathon.

How can I explain this phenomenon?

Why should I?

I believe I've hit upon another very valuable meme... one that says:

"Make sure YOU are always on the right side."

That way, your chances of success are higher.

A child's life is in the balance.

Success matters here.

A lot.

I think on the same token - links for super affiliates that are 'dead end' links will be important. One of my top affiliates has this link I set up for him - http://first50.megaresellrights.com

Now if someone tried to by-pass this and go straight to the root domain of www.megaresellrights.com ...well...I'll let you see what happens. :)

The Power of Doing Good

Perhaps it's something sub-conscious that pulls you back when you're not entirely comfortable with what you're doing.

Or maybe it's something else.

But I've noticed that when my effort is targeted towards a GOOD cause, it almost always succeeds.

Never mind how much time or effort I spend on it.

People support me, without asking. Word spreads virally. The effort gains momentum, takes on a personality of its own.

A case in point is this very "Heart Kids Blogathon".

We've raised enough to fund a child's heart operation - and we're not stopping there. We're going to try and get enough for TWO operations.

Then THREE.

Even more, maybe.

My friend, John Harricharan, author of "Power Pause" would call it a "conspiring of the forces of the Universe" that align themselves on the side of the Right.

Whatever...

The meme I'm driving at?

Make sure YOU are always on the right side.

That way, your chances of success are higher.

Much higher.

Don't undersell yourself

Since a majority of my income comes from helping our affiliate network sell more of our products - I see some new things coming down the pike in this area:

I see clandestine links being even important for affiliates. Ken Evoy from SiteSell has being doing this for awhile and I really think this will catch on. Instead of affiliates being given a link like - www.sitesell.com/affid=1234 they are given simple links like - www.sitesell.com/surefire.html and top-selling affiliates are given links like - http://breakthrough.sitesell.com

We are working on a similar solution that will do this for our affiliates.

Don't undersell yourself

For years I believed that giving away valuable content was the best way to find and keep loyal customers and subscribers.

My earnings statements kept telling me otherwise.

Until one fine day I decided to try a different approach - ask subscribers to pay for my content.

To my surprise, 5% of my list agreed to pay to continue to receive my ezine.

Imagine that -

For almost 6 years, I was giving away content that one in 20 subscribers was willing to pay money for!

Memetic evolution can be a *very* profitable thing.

Things I got - by asking

Guru Speak:Rosalind Gardner, Rosalind Gardner.com

Do YOU Have An "eMarketing Trendz" Prediction?Share it with us. Email it to me - I'll even post it with a link to your site if it's great!

Because, in the end, the worst week of being self-employed in your own Internet business beats the heck out of the best week of working for someone else - especially if your boss is anything like my old boss.

As much as I used to like my job, I don't remember ever
being so eager to get to work that I bounded out of bed each and every
day of the week. Actually, the prospect of hauling my butt out of
bed on cold winter mornings to deal with that jerk prompted
me to call in sick fairly often.

Now, I bound out of bed every day and I'm hard pressed NOT
to get to work before the coffee is ready.

I love being self-employed, and working at h*me on the 'Net is
absolutely perfect... even with its challenges.

Just like anything else in life, nothing is perfect. Even when
you're at the top of your game, you'll still encounter
problems and challenges on a regular basis. That's what
makes life fun and interesting. As long as you persist, and
tackle problems one at a time, you'll always end up a winner.

Things I got - by asking

Ask for what you want.

That's a powerful meme that I've picked up over the years.

In the past 3 months, here are some of the marketing ebooks and courses I received by asking:

  • Damon Zahriades Special Report Bible - value $49

  • James Martell's Affiliate Marketers Handbook - value $149

  • Joel Christopher's Master List Builder - value $79

  • Mark Joyner's Farewell Package - value $997

And I've given away over 75 copies of my various ebooks to people who have asked me for them.

It doesn't always work.

Nothing works every time.

Still, what do you lose by asking?

ASK for help...

Guru Speak:Rosalind Gardner, Rosalind Gardner.com

Do YOU Have An "eMarketing Trendz" Prediction?Share it with us. Email it to me - I'll even post it with a link to your site if it's great!

eMarketing & the Little Guy

In its infancy, eMarketing presented Jane & Joe Ordinary with the opportunity to go head to head with the largest of corporations. Achieving high search engine rankings and getting lots of visitors to a site was easy. Anyone with a decent product could easily make a fortune using this new technology.

Times changed however, and increased competition made good search engine positions much more difficult to achieve. Search engines changed their ranking criteria on an almost daily basis, and those who didn't keep up with the technology by constantly 'tweaking' their pages, saw their sites fall into obscurity and their earnings decrease by result.

Not all was lost to the 'little guy' who couldnt afford to pay big bucks for advertising however.

Search engine optimization software kept us in the running. Numerous new Internet marketing methods including pay-per-click advertising were introduced to keep us in the game, and in many cases, on top of our respective fields. Smarter, more consistent use of mailing lists and joint ventures have permitted thousands of Janes & Joes to quit their day jobs.

With 30,000 new people introduced to the Internet each and every hour of each and every day, I believe that anyone who is willing to work, and work hard, can still start a extremely lucrative eBusiness.

No matter how the eMarketing road twists and turns, those with a sincere desire to please their customers, will always find success by moving with the changing times.

Seeking assistance for anything used to seem demeaning.

As a consequence, I got many things the hard way - when they could have been done easily.

If only I had asked for help.

THE ALADDIN FACTOR

It's a book by Jack Canfield. A fantastic one. Read it if you get your hands on it. Or GET your hands on it somehow - and read it :)

Jack's analysis of why we're afraid or reluctant about asking is so totally on target, it's unsettling. Are my feelings so easy to understand?

Anyway... after reading the book, I've practiced the ART of ASKING.

And wait till I tell you about the stuff I've received - BECAUSE I asked.

Get someone to do it for you

Guru Speak:David Yancey, Pro Web Guide

Do YOU Have An "eMarketing Trendz" Prediction?Share it with us. Email it to me - I'll even post it with a link to your site if it's great!

The only serious obstacle between your organization and online success is learning. Even having a lot of funding for a new business is of little use if one does not know the best ways to put that money to work. For in one way, the Internet is just as cruel as it was back in the bubble-busting years: it is still all too easy to waste capital online, whether in the form of unproductive advertising, over-spending on paid-search, over-design of websites, and the biggest business killer of them all: the failure to build features and offer services that keep visitors and customers coming back, after spending so much to attract them in the first place.

Discouraging? Not really, not so long as one can learn from the mistakes of others. And here, too, the web has retained one of its main attributes through the last few tough years - it is still possible to learn all you and your team need to know, for free or very nearly so.

Take advantage of all this free knowledge, and make a plan that is as rich in wisdom as it may be lean in riches, and you will do well.

Get someone to do it for you

You have core competencies.

You're good at some things. Very good.

Not so good at others. It's ok. No one does EVERYTHING well.

The vital issue is how you tackle these chores.

I used to believe it is worth learning to do it all myself.

Memes evolve. Better memes emerge. Evolution selects the best ones.

Today, I'm of the view that you should do the things you do well - and get someone else to do the rest.

That way, you get the best result - in EVERYTHING.

ANTI Marketing?

Guru Speak:David Yancey, Pro Web Guide

Do YOU Have An "eMarketing Trendz" Prediction?Share it with us. Email it to me - I'll even post it with a link to your site if it's great!

And the consumers of the world have not used the Internet less during this period when many experts expected it to decline or even go bust: instead, they have joined the online world in huge numbers. Of special note, millions of seniors are coming online, as are millions of new users in Asia, Europe, Latin America. Even more impressive, far from wanting less of what the ënet has to offer, these folks are switching to higher speed access like DSL and cable so they can get more, and get it faster.

As a result, e-commerce sites and many others are enjoying a boom. It is definitely a lot quieter boom than we were experiencing in 2000, but it is still very much a boom, especially when we compare their prospects and performance with offline businesses that are mostly mired in the molasses of slow- to no-growth traditional economies.

What it means is that while online advertising is hugely important to the outlook for those who publish online, the advertising industry is not really the final arbiter of whether the web becomes a major world economic force. That accomplishment is already a fact.

The conclusion? For those wishing to build a new business online, or take an older one to new heights using interactive marketing and services delivery, the times are great, and are going to get even better.

ANTI Marketing?

Buzz words catch attention.

Because they're strange, unusual.

They heighten curiosity.

So when I described my new email newsletter strategy as "Ezine ANTI Marketing", quite a few people got talking about it.

Why ANTI Marketing?

Because I felt that the current climate of near-hostility towards ezines was partly related to the fact that they were becoming ad-vehicles rather than valuable content resources.

In my sold-out eClass, attendees paid upto $297 per seat to learn about my six steps to turn around an ezine strategy to become explosively more effective - while cutting down list size to the bone.

The very contrariness was daringly effective. Remove people from your mailing list. Stop marketing to the rest. And boost your profits several fold!

By popular demand, I'm considering offering these lessons in the form of an ebook. If you'd like to hear about it when it is released, drop me a note.

Shift Happens... Be prepared

Guru Speak:David Yancey, Pro Web Guide

Do YOU Have An "eMarketing Trendz" Prediction?Share it with us. Email it to me - I'll even post it with a link to your site if it's great!

If one could have managed to escape from our planet for a nice two year vacation in un-cyberspace, perhaps in a leisurely cruise out to one of those asteroids that threaten to end our little party down here, one of the last things one would have read about in the Internet trade and business press while waiting for the flight to board, is how the death of online advertising threatened to kill the Internet itself.

Now, supposing our vacationer returned a few weeks ago. He or she would have been greeted by headlines in sites like www.mediapost.com celebrating the strong growth in online advertising. This on top of the buzz about Google AdSense. That added to the near-frenetic commentary all this spring and summer about the power and potential of ìsearch engine marketingî. That in turn added to news of billion-dollar plus buyouts of Internet advertising companies, of all people!

We can forgive our space traveller for thinking she or he must have landed on another planet, for the online world truly has changed that much in just a couple of years.

Or has it?

In fact, sales of goods and services during this same period have increased more or less steadily; in some cases dramatically. In parallel, businesses keep finding more and more ways to use the web to help them serve customers better, speed orders and service calls, work smarter. More and more fee-paid services are emerging, and are proving themselves able to flourish even when the ad dollars dry up.

Shift Happens... Be prepared

The only constant is change.

It simply won't do to get involved with the stuff you do well. Because tomorrow that very thing will be 'old hat'.

For 7 years I gained expertise publishing and marketing with ezines.

And suddenly spam filters, whitelisting and sheer volume overload are threatening to destroy the effectiveness of email marketing.

What to do?

You could stick your head in the sand, pretend nothing's changed, that all will return to 'normal' soon - and lose your advantage.

Or you could prepare to change.

In a search for a viable alternative that would let me stay in touch with my audience, I once again experimented with blogging.

It seems perfect to overcome the very hurdles that make email marketing so toothless today.

Shift happens - what will YOU do when it begins to hurt?

Your memes will reveal your real self!

Think out of the Box

As Mani Thinketh:Memtastic - Dr.Mani's really FANTASTIC memes!

Think Out of the Box
Creativity involves taking risks, doing the unconventional, facing ridicule.

It's worth it all.

What I consider my best contribution to ezine marketing is the eReport called "List Builder PROFITS - How To Earn Money From Your Email Newsletter EVEN BEFORE You Send Out Your First Issue"

http://www.EzineMarketingCenter.com/ESP/

And it was conceived in response to a simply change in the way I was thinking. Email newsletters were considered a medium to establish trusting relationships with readers - which over time translated into selling to them.

I had built several lists of over 1000 subscribers. And started wondering if the very process of building those lists couldn't be made profitable.

It actually is possible - and quite easy.

In the 9 months of using this strategy, I've made an average of $1.50 from each subscriber that joins my list.

Experience the strategy yourself - click here to sign up for my free ezine.

Or buy the eReport.

But most important...

Think out of the box.

There's pots of money in it!

Making a Difference

As Mani Thinketh:Memtastic - Dr.Mani's really FANTASTIC memes!

Making a Difference

Praise is rare. Criticism is more common.

It's a sad reality.

Seldom is a good, positive act given the publicity or glamor it so richly deserves. See the newspaper - you'll see what I mean.

So it's easy to miss the fact that you're really making a difference.

A few months back, I made a much-needed update to my eReport, "AFTER THE FONTAN".

And announced it to my customer list, which numbered around 500.

I was amazed at the flood of response that poured in. I honestly didn't realize that this eReport made such a difference to so many lives!

I set up a special testimonials page just for these responses - take a peek. I've had to edit many of them heavily, to avoid revealing any personal details about the kids.

But what's there still tugs at heartstrings.

You too can make a difference - by contributing to our fund. Click here.

BREAKING NEWS!

Something very unexpected happened!

I guess I was hoping for it all night long, but still the surprise was TOTAL!

In the last hour and a half, we've received a combined sponsorship of $910.00 - and that instantly took us past the self-set target of $3000.

Enough to sponsor one child's heart surgery.

So like any good marketer (or heart surgeon), I instantly raised the bar!

Now we're gunning for $4,500 - and I'll make up the remaining amount to sponsor TWO CHILDREN through heart surgery!

What do you say to a challenge like that?

All together now - LET'S GO FOR IT!

Be A Purple Cow

As Mani Thinketh:Memtastic - Dr.Mani's really FANTASTIC memes!

Be A Purple Cow

What I didn't mention about the "Chain of Love" experiment is that the message about it reached almost 500,000 people.

Ezine editors and owners of large mailing lists told their readers about it. Several hundred visitors to the website used the online form to tell friends. Over 3000 media outlets saw the press release sent out about the event.

It attracted over 30,000 visitors to the site, and several of them signed up to the "Chain of Love".

When I mentioned this successful experiment to Seth Godin, he promptly included my name in his list of "99 Purple Cows", a list of outrageous or innovative - but effective - marketers.

He asks:

DOES A DOCTOR NEED TO BE PURPLE?

In the old days, once you were done with medical school, you were set. In India, just as in the U.S., there were too many patients and not enough good doctors.

Today, of course, it's a different story. Doctors are closing their practices or trying to figure out how to pay the malpractice insurance.

Dr. Mani Sivasubramanian doesn't have that problem. He's as busy as he wants to be.

You can transfer memes...

You can transfer memes...

from one specialty to another.

Having seen how powerful networking is, I wanted to try using it for my CHD work. In 1998, I had attempted creating an online think tank to find solutions to help CHD kids. It failed - due to lack of sustained interest by participants.

How could I do something different this time?

A friend's suggestion sparked off an idea. To build a "Chain of Love".

See what resulted - click here.

The child mentioned in the story (see sidebar) had a successful operation. You could replace that name and face with any one of 1000s of little kids - there are many others like Master Arun.

Most will not have an operation - because it is too expensive!

That is another reason to mix eMarketing with my work as heart surgeon.

Network - it is exponentially powerful

The more people you know, the more powerful you become. And two plus two can equal much more than just four.

In a follow-up book on ezine 'best practices', I invited 18 top ezine editors to contribute their thoughts and ideas. The result - a fabulous collection of tips, concepts, secrets and philosophies about bringing out a great email newsletter.

Aptly, I titled the collection "THE EZINE MASTERS - Making Your Ezine The VERY BEST Ever"

Better still, the ebook was downloaded far and wide because each one of the contributors offered it to their own audiences.

A similar impact can be achieved when you harness the power of an affiliate network. If you don't have one already, set up an affiliate program for your business.

Enter minds through education

As Mani Thinketh:Memtastic - Dr.Mani's really FANTASTIC memes!

Enter minds through education

Into your prospect's mind.

That should be an eMarketers ultimate target. To get there, and stay there.

Education is a wonderful way to achieve this.

By deciding to educate email newsletter publishers on the basics and intricacies of using ezines effectively, I gained 'mind share' with the network hubs, the people who were vocal within groups of people and spread their message to many more with similar ideas and thoughts.

My first ebook for ezine publishers was "EZINE LAUNCH - Creating 'Killer' Email Newsletters, Fast and Easy"

With almost five years of email newsletter publishing experience behind me at the time, the ebook was 'fast and easy' to put together.

Another meme was absorbed into my persona - write about something you know, like, and have passion for.

It's easy. And fun.

Email newsletters reach mass audiences. It is a form of one-to-many communication.

Editors and publishers of email newsletters want to keep updating their knowledge about ezine marketing. They come to my site - The Ezine Marketing Center - to learn.

By reaching the people who in turn reach many more people, I'm able to exponentially increase my reach. My impact is wider than if I tried to do it all alone.

That's why I chose to 'specialize' in ezine marketing.

Spend EARNED - not expected - profits

As Mani Thinketh:Memtastic - Dr.Mani's really FANTASTIC memes!

Spend EARNED - not expected - profits

I mentioned staying power in an earlier note.

A part of being able to stick on with stuff depends on your finances.

P.T.Barnum's little book titled "The Art of Money Getting" written in the 1800's, has a nice quote about money.

"Mr. Micawber, one of those happy creations of the genial Dickens, puts the case
in a strong light when he says that to have an income of twenty pounds per annum, and spend twenty pounds and sixpence, is to be the most miserable of men; whereas, to have an income of only twenty pounds, and spend but nineteen pounds and sixpence is to be the happiest of mortals."

In other words, don't spend what you don't have.

Online, it's so easy to get caught up in the rush to build brand equity fast, attract eyeballs to your website quickly, grab the latest "hot" opportunity before it passes.

Combined with 'killer' sales letters written by master copywriters and "one click ordering" nirvana courtesy Amazon.com, this manic rush can quickly turn your grandiose plans and sweet dreams to cyber-dust.

If one meme must stick in your mind, it's this one.

Others are FANTASTIC. This one's basic.

The new spam filters installed by ISP's, which are blocking more and more commercial emails, are only the beginning of a downward slope. In two years time you might not be able to read email marketing ezines and newsletters because they just won't reach you.

So don't put all your eggs in one basket by only concentrating
on building email lists. You should also work on doing well in
the search engines and directories.

It's all about content, of course. So text based Blogs which are
continually adding are going to become more and more important.
Especially if they're tightly focused on one niche so the search
engines grow to love them.

But what's going to happen to happen in the long term? Search
engines right now are text based, but in a few years time they
might work out a way of ranking sites based on their audio
and visual content.

And that's where the web in general is going.

So I think it's important to add movie making skills to your portfolio.
One day you could be running the world's top ranking all singing,
all dancing TV-like marketing blog.

Be Not The First...

... by which the new is tested!

Am I inconsistent, or what?

First, I advocate change - frequent refreshing of memes. Then, I caution against rushing into new developments.

Reason: early adopters seldom are the most profitable end-users.

Case in point - my early experiments with blogging. When blogs hit the scene, I was curious. Built my first "Ezine Blog" in early 2001. Saw the potential in them.

But my intuition warned me - "Slow down. No one else is talking about them."

I listened - and moved on to other things. Until recently. When blogging suddenly caught fire as a "hot" Internet phenomenon, I was ready.

With a book.

"33 Quick Blog Profit Ideas" was created in just 4 days - and caught the imagination and interest of an online marketing community keen on exploring the "new" medium.

Memes evolve. Constantly. Only a few will be profitable at any given time. By constantly changing, experimenting, exploring, you'll be ready to jump on an opportunity.

I believe one thing we will begin to see much more of is "web based newsletters".

Software is available now that makes a newsletter published on the web monthly, weekly or even daily an easy task. The software will even email all the subscribers, although I'm not sure how long that feature will be useful due to the filters out now.

In any case, anyone providing the right kind of valued content will have their subscribers coming back for more without having to get an email.

Maybe one idea is to use the software I created for the Money Browser and create something called "BlogWare" and have it to where people could subscribe to all their favorite blogs or "web based newsletters" and have it notify them right on their desktops.

I think desktop notifications is the future of newsletters one way or the other.

Memes from winners weren't easily available to see, learn from and mimic.

Or copy.

Today many are. Corey Rudl's "Secrets of Their Success" member site lists several models every month. And Joe Kumar's fantastic compilation of profitable online strategies in his ebook "30 Days To Internet Marketing Success" will give anyone tons of ideas to try out and succeed with.

Medium Matters Over Method

I think in the future, people will buy marketing products from those that have proven they can sell non-marketing products also.

Also, there is money in other niches (weight loss, cooking
etc), primarily because most of the players in these other
industries are not as experienced or versed in marketing
tactics as those in the internet marketing industry.

Thus, the best way to go, in my opinion, is to diversify
your operations and play in as many niches as time would
allow your specific situation. With each niche comes its
own set of problems, challenges, and rewards. :-)

When I first heard about WZ.com - saw how the concept was based on leveraging the power of ezines - learned my friend Paul Myers was behind it, along with Audri Lanford - I signed up in a flash.

It's incredible how much you can learn by working with/for SMART people.

And they don't come much smarter than Paul and Audri.

In an era where interruption marketing faced an insurmountable obstacle - a mental block in the prospect's mind - ezines were a powerful way to position one's product or brand effectively.

Endorsements or recommendations in the context of useful content was sure to be welcomed by readers. Delivering this value by email saved on costs and effort.

A fantastic concept.

What went wrong?

Email filtering and spam assaults queered the pitch for legitimate ezine marketers. Free subscribers proved they were in only for the gifts, not to spend money for value.

WZ.com quietly folded 2 years after launch. Lessons were learned by all concerned.

My meme - it's the medium that matters, not what you do with it.

That's why I'm into blogging!

What I see as the next big thing, is repetition of concepts and tactics that work.

Basically, the blueprint cum compilation concept for my book
"30 Days To Internet Marketing Success" took off like
gangbusters, so I knew that kind of a concept was hot.

So what did I do? I began work on "30 Days To Weight Loss
Success". Repeat what works. If a cow is milking, continue
milking that cow for all she's worth.

How do you know what concepts work? Simple - you test. Test
different offers, salesletters, concepts and products, and
when something works, do it over and over again. :-)

Note: Joe was incredibly busy when I asked him to contribute to this blogathon. But because it was for children, this young, caring, generous gentleman took time off his schedule to send in his eMarketing tips - at 3:30 a.m. - his time.

I'm terribly impressed at his big heart.

Remember the name, he'll be very famous soon. Joe Kumar is a GREAT GUY.

Get A New World View

In June 2000, one of my dreams came true.

I was offered a chance to train in two of the best childrens' heart hospitals in the world - Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, U.K. and the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, Australia.

The experience broadened my vision professionally - and otherwise.

In India, where average *monthly* incomes average $300, I couldn't really feel comfortable pricing my ebooks at over $39 - if that.

In London, a cappucino at Starbucks used to cost 2.95 - POUNDS Sterling, that is. Dinner for two would set me back over $80.

And I realized I was actually UNDER pricing my creations.

That's been the MOST profitable meme I've developed in recent times.

My bank manager agrees :)

I shouldn't be giving this away. It's a fantastic meme. It belongs on my zoomer-only forum at Memtastic.com

But I'll let you have it - for F R E E. If you like it, and want more, click here...

Here's the fantastic meme:

Dominate a Market.

From 1999, till today, there is no competing product for my report, AFTER THE FONTAN.

Why? I don't know.

But this I do know - without a friendly tip from Wanda Loskot, I'd have dropped the ball on this one. Wanda suggested that I build a website around the theme "Fontan operation" -- and then dominate that niche.

After several changes and evolution, the site has now become FontanOperation.com

It still straddles the specialty like a colossus. Positioning me as the expert. Getting some sales. Helps some kids and families.

A REAL FANTASTIC MEME -

You Can Learn From David Letterman

One thing about eMarketing will never change: nobody can be your customer until they know you exist.

Publicity is, and will continue to be one of the best ways to promote online businesses. To get coverage, you need to give away information people can use. One of the best ways to do that is with the David Letterman-style Top 10 Tips that journalists love.

Make the information you provide short, sharp and truly useful. Don’t spend time explaining your expertise.

At the top or the bottom of the article the editor will run a short bio explaining who you are, along with a way to contact you. Those few lines are vastly more credible than pages of your own horn-blowing.

The fact that you’ve been chosen to provide expert advice is a media endorsement – and that’s the exactly what you should hope to achieve with publicity.

Keep each tip to one or two short-sentence paragraphs. Go out of your way to make the information useful. Avoid jargon and buzzwords and write in plain English. Re-write, re-write and re-write again.

So you trust people, eh?

a.k.a. Protecting downloads

Thanks for the email, Jim.

I'm glad you're still here with me, reading about my memetic evolution.

Jim asked me: "How did you keep people from distributing your eReport to others?"

I didn't.

Are you surprised?

My philosophy - Given a choice, people will do good rather than bad, will do the right thing rather than wrong.

I trust people. And their innate goodness...

A minority sample not fitting this world-view will not change my memeplex.

Of course, I've never been entirely dependent on a downloadable product for my survival. I might feel differently if I did.

There's a lesson in this, though. Multiple income streams allow you the luxury of being a positive person.

Or maybe I'm building this meme the wrong way up -

Being a positive person has made me rich.

Does it really matter? Be positive. Trust people. Most of them are good!

Don't fear problems - solve them

I envision physical objects, such as clothes, automobiles, sporting goods, and portable radios, to be imprinted with not only a logo or brand name, which many already are, and with URL, which some already are, but also with an order number that can be typed, or possibly scanned, into a cell phone.

The order could be delivered to the customer's house or business automatically or, utilizing a Global Positioning Satellite, deliver the product to wherever the customer is at -- eating in a restaurant, walking on the street, relaxing at a campground, wherever.

It will be impulse purchasing taken to new heights. "Like what you see? Just push a button and it's yours!"

Don't fear problems - solve them

Problems are everywhere. The road to riches and fame is seldom easy or smooth. That's why it isn't very crowded. There are no traffic jams on the last mile.

And that's the mile that takes you further than the 1000's you've travelled before!

2 examples:

When I got started, I had no software to create ebooks (indeed they weren't available) and shipping a printed report from India was costly.

I wrote the report in Microsoft Word. And delivered it by email.

Problem solved. At least temporarily.

Next, how could I get people to pay me? Checks or bank drafts would take 3 weeks to process. Worse, they involved too much buyer effort. So I hunted for a solution.

And stumbled upon a startup - a name that you may recognize today, but not many did in 1999 - iBill.

Problem solved again.

Was it easy? Yes, but only because I was determined to solve it. Just as my little patients have families who won't give up without finding a solution.

It's a question of survival for them. And now I realize it was for me too!

I have gained memes from my patients and their families. In more ways than I can list here.

Get Over Analysis-Paralysis

Guru Speak:Jason Cain, Gold Blogger

Do YOU Have An "eMarketing Trendz" Prediction?Share it with us. Email it to me - I'll even post it with a link to your site if it's great!

The hottest trend that we will see in e-marketing will be o-mercials. Online commercials or o-mercials will pervade the Internet as the reach of broadband and high-speed connections spread across the globe.

O-mercials will not be regulated to just the big entertainment sites. I foresee infopreneurs spreading their thinking and reaching out for new customers.

Can you imagine the pop-ups with movie video and audio?

Expect your computer to be a screamer compared to today's standards.

The other change you will see -- in fact it is already occurring -- is with many online services not being "pulled" from the Internet, but a "permissive push".

Imagine CNN asking you:

"Can we send you send you a 10 minute video each morning with the highlights of world news?"

It won't appear in your inbox, but on your desktop.

It's going to happen people -- and soon.

Get Over Analysis-Paralysis

It's easy to get overwhelmed by data, information and knowledge.

It's easy to get addicted to the learning process.

It's easy to get mired in analysis and bogged down by planning.

It isn't enough, though.

You need to ACT.

A poor product in the marketplace still earns more money than the ideal one that's trapped inside your mind!

It wasn't until 1999 that this meme resonated in my mind. And then I created my first eProduct - a specialty report titled AFTER THE FONTAN - How Fontan Survivors Fare In The Long Term.

It wasn't easy to do. Dozens of hurdles cropped up.

Several lacunae in my knowledge showed up. I had to learn some more - and then some more again.

But I did it. And appreciated the Nike motto more than ever...

JUST DO IT!

Or as another eGuru, John Audette, puts it: "Ready -- Fire -- Aim!"

In that order :)

The Memes, they're evolving...

Guru Speak:Mark Joyner, Mind Control Marketing

"We have barely tapped in to the potential of the Internet as an agent for global change. As long as the Internet remains unregulated, it will be the most liberating force humanity has ever known" Mark Joyner, #1 Best-Selling Author, "MindControlMarketing.com"

Special note: Mark is my special sponsor - he donated his Farewell Package towards my work with heart kids. For more details, click here.

As Mani Thinketh:Memtastic - Dr.Mani's really FANTASTIC memes!

The Memes, they're evolving...

So the first few years of my eMarketing career were devoted essentially to learning and implementing processes, ideas, and memes.

Memes that are constantly evolving. All working towards a purpose. Each designed to make myself a force with staying power. An entity with increasing power and adaptability to survive rapid change in a hypercompetitive marketplace.

From a philosophical perspective, heart surgery shares parallels with eMarketing. Both require high levels of dedication and sustained, targeted effort. Flexibility in thinking, innovativeness, daring and boldness are vital in both.

Stakes are high. Risks are huge. Benefits of success are great. Punishments for failure are harsh.

Hyper-competitiveness, aggressive pushiness, problem solving attitudes and a burning desire to succeed are personality traits ideal for either career.

Or BOTH!

And in my case, when the profitability of one can be a source of funding subsidies in another, the synergistic interaction is EXPLOSIVE! One of the overwhelming reasons that I practice both heart surgery and eMarketing.

Observe - Apply - Succeed

Guru Speak:Michael Green, How To Corp

Do YOU Have An "eMarketing Trendz" Prediction?Share it with us. Email it to me - I'll even post it with a link to your site if it's great!

There's no doubt as to the direction of internet marketing, though there is some difficulty in predicting when it will happen.

First of all, what's the direction then?....

Up until now internet marketers have spent a huge amount of time and effort,
marketing essentially to themselves. Hit products come and go quickly and
guess who's buying them? More or less just other marketers.

The obvious shift is to start to market to the outside world of
non-marketers. I'm talking about business people, consumers, just about any
marketplace other than the over-crowded internet marketing space.

Marketers can use all their existing skills and apply them to these outside
markets that have probably never experienced a top-notch marketing approach.
Imagine the impact!

So next, when will it happen?

Much harder to predict. I do know that marketers will eventually grow board
of buying everyone else's hot product and will want to make some money for
themselves. Still the temptation to return to what everyone knows best,
which is flogging similar products to the same group of a couple of hundred
thousand online marketers, will be a hard habit to break.

Will it happen anytime soon. My guess is not, but within five years that
shift seems absolutely inevitable to me.

Imagine applying these powerful techniques to a market of millions or even
billions of people. Now that's where the big money lies!

To your online success!
Michael Green

Observe - Apply - Succeed

A simple strategy to win online - and off.

Yet a poorly followed one.

I've often wondered - WHY?

And realized that:

- You don't know WHOM to observe

- You don't know WHAT to learn

- You don't know HOW to apply

The result? You DON'T succeed!

Look for someone - anyone - who is achieving the kind of outcome you desire. Then study them closely for ideas, memes, concepts that make them click.

Think out ways to apply them into your business, absorb them into your memeplex.

And you'll succeed. I guarantee it.

You just need to ZOOM...

Big Boys Play At Night

Guru Speak:Mark Brownlow, Email Marketing Reports

If you use e-newsletters, watch out for RSS feeds. RSS is a code format. Websites can code content using this format and make the file (feed) available for download.

Then anyone with RSS-enabled software can "subscribe" to these RSS feeds. This software connects with the originator of the feed at a frequency set by the user, and checks to see if any new content has been added. If it has, then it's downloaded and displayed by the reader.

Why is that cool? Your content gets pulled to the desktop by each subscriber. Deliverability is perfect. No worries about filters, blacklists and the rest.

For the recipient, they have 100% control over their subscription and don't need to hand over an email address. It's a win-win. And expect to see RSS capabilities built into new versions of the major email clients soon.

At the moment, RSS is mainly used by bloggers and content syndicators. But as the email spam fest continues, expect to find both readers and e-publishers increasingly willing to switch from email to RSS.

Build Teams That Zoom

Guru Speak:Neil Shearing, Scam Free Zone

Do YOU Have An "eMarketing Trendz" Prediction?Share it with us. Email it to me - I'll even post it with a link to your site if it's great!

Email marketing will have to suffer from the increasing deluge of spam. As emailing a list is a great way to make sales, this marketing method will suffer too. I'm sure it already is.

As a result of email overload, we will move further
down the line of only allowing emails from people
we trust (by issuing "keys" to our mailboxes).
This will result in fewer marketing emails being
sent, but those that are sent will get a mcuh better
response.

Say goodbye to lists of hundreds of thousands or
millions (ticker tape parades) and hello to small,
very targetted (and very lucrative) lists of email
addresses with keys.

Build Teams That Zoom

Chances are good you've heard of About.com

It is a BIG Player online.

If I were a betting man, I'll stake a fair bit that you haven't heard of "The Mining Company". Not many were familiar in 1998 with their jingle:

"We Dig The Net"

Still, when a guy named Bob Schulties contacted me out of the blue, offered me $500 a month to create content for this fledgling web content service, I thought "What the heck" and signed up.

And over 18 months, saw first-hand the amazing power of Teams that ZOOM!

What started as The Mining Company, through sheer "zoom power", morphed into the powerhouse called About.com - in just 9 months. Becoming one of the Top 10 Websites in traffic terms. With a book value, at one point, of over a BILLION dollars!

500+ passionate Guides (I was the Heart Disease Guide) contributed their skills and content in an exhilarating creative environment to deliver outstanding results.

Ideas were solicited. Suggestions were debated. Criticism accepted and changes made.

Positive feedback loops worked miracles. And success followed - quite naturally.

Do YOU Zoom? You should, y'know! The memes swapped in a zooming culture can work wonders in your organization too.

Think Big... but don't always ACT big!

Think Big... but don't always ACT big!

Now I know someone's reading my posts! This just came in by email...

"Seth Godin - whom you're so fond of quoting - says big visions and persistence are NOT the best way to run your business or ring something new to a hypercompetitive marketplace. What's up?"

Notice that I say "Think BIG"

Not "ACT Big". At least, not always!

I'll give you 2 personal examples.

Every project I embark upon is a huge, wild success - in my mind. I plan for them to be enormously popular, attracting millions of customers, readers or viewers. Including this Heart Kids Blogathon. (Did you visit the CHD Awareness Day website yet? Click here)

But for my Blog Profit Ideas Exposed ebook, I thought out ideas, created the blogBook, and offered it for sale - ALL IN JUST 5 DAYS.

When it started selling copies, I expanded the scope and sales efforts. The return on my investment has been high. If no one had bought my book, I'd have saved myself a lot of time and energy.

Example 2: I created a webpage for an EXPERIMENT IN SELFISHNESS. And noticed a mixed range of reactions in response. All uniformly indicated a willingness to donate - for a nobler cause.

Coincidentally, I heard about Blogathon 2003 at that moment. Instantly, I changed the promotion to direct visitors here.

Result: Over $1350 in donations and pledges to support the CHD effort.

Think BIG

Act SMALL

Right now we live in a golden age. We'll look back and wonder at how easy it was to generate revenue on the Internet. Now that we have Google's AdSense, it's not even necessary to know how to sell - all you need do is get the click.

Unfortunately that's going to attract an avalanche of really dumb
web sites. Google is going to have to work harder than ever
to sort out the gems its users are trying to locate.

Want to succeed in the future? Create the sort of web site sites
that people are trying to find - useful, interesting, helpful ones.

It costs just as much to think BIG as to think Small.

That's why my target for this Heart Kids Blogathon isn't merely to raise $3000 for ONE child's heart operation. That's just step 1.

I hope to:

- raise enough for 4 more operations before the event ends. Have YOU donated yet? DO IT - click here

- build a list of donors/sponsors - sign up here

- create a self-sustaining process to fund a fixed number of operations each year - learn more

- Weave a "Chain of Love" that spans the globe, linking caring, concerned people with kids who need their compassionate support - Join today

- Learn to Zoom - Do you?

Educate to create markets

As Mani Thinketh:Memtastic - Dr.Mani's really FANTASTIC memes!

Educate to Create Markets

One of the most valuable EARLY memes captured in my eMarketing evolution is to try and OWN YOUR MARKET.

The best way to do this is to CREATE your market yourself.

It isn't easy. But it's well worth the trouble.

How do you do this? Through education.

Let's say you haven't heard about the Internet. I come along and teach you about it. Show you its wonderful possibilities. Open your mind to the endless opportunities and limitless capabilities.

Would you thank me for this? Like me? Listen to me? Trust me? Buy from me? Revere me? Adore me? PRAY TO ME?

Ok, Ok, I got carried away there!

But you get the picture.

Al Ries and Jack Trout co-authored a REMARKABLE book called "POSITIONING - The Battle For Your Mind". In it, they argue that the first person to get into a consumer's mind has an INCREDIBLE - often unsurmountable - advantage over the followers.

I agree.

And have learned from the past.

Today, when I launched "Blog Profit Ideas Exposed", I spent some time EDUCATING my prospects about blogs and blogging.

The result - 37 sales in just a few days, with hardly any promotion.

I'm the NEW Blog Profit Guru... buy my book - NOW!

Be In The Right Place -- at the Right TIME

Methods to confuse or otherwise nullify the effectiveness of spammer's email harvesting robots will become ever more sophisticated.

Once such method already exists, our own Master Spambot Buster, which is free to use and free to give away, from http://willmaster.com/master/spambotbuster/

Other solutions will be developed, probably more sophisticated than Master Spambot Buster, and possibly using different methods.

Email address cloaking methods already abound, which include encoding with special characters, encryption, generating with JavaScript, and others, some very ingenious.

But cloaking methods all have a weakness in common -- the browser must decode/decrypt/generate the email address into it's original form before it can be used. It is a weakness because browsers and email harvesting robots are both software and, no matter the cloaking method, if a browser can extract the email address then robots can be programmed to extract it, too.

Master Spambot Buster requires no cloaking because the destination email address is nowhere on the page, in the post, or in the article. It's CGI. It works. It is essential for some individuals and businesses to have direct email contact from their web pages, discussion group posts, and ezine articles.

Probably in the near future, other programming languages will be utilized to implement the method Master Spambot Buster uses. The script is open source, so programmers can see how to accomplish the task.

I expect this new method, or other methods yet to be developed, to become quite popular among those who suffer the most from spam -- merchants.

Be In The Right Place -- at the Right TIME

Fired up at the incredible vista of opportunity that loomed ahead, I dreamed of instantly revolutionizing the cardiac surgical community in India.

And later the world!

In zealous overdrive, I founded the DENCATS forum, and announced it through brochures and presentations to the Indian cardiac surgical association.

And watched it fall flat on its face!

Fewer than 1% had HEARD about the Internet.

Barely a handful had email ids - and some of them had NEVER used it!

Disillusioned, I abandoned my project.

And realize, in retrospect, my mistake.

What's the mistake? What should I have done?

Well, the next best thing to being the Right Person at the Right Place at the Right Time doing the Right Thing is to... see the next post!

Staying Power - Have it? Get it!

As Mani Thinketh:Memtastic - Dr.Mani's really FANTASTIC memes!

Staying Power -- Have it? GET IT!

No, this isn't an ad for Viagra.

A major mutation in my memetic evolution has come from reading - and recording - motivational literature.

On the wall in front of my computer, I have inscribed a powerful quote - one epitomized daily in the attitude of my little patients.

FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION

To put it simply, your BIGGEST competitive advantage comes from NOT giving up -- EVER!

Fall down - but get back up.

Fail - but keep trying.

Make mistakes - but learn from them.

And then carry on, make new ones.

Innovate. Experiment. Zoom.

Whatever.

Just DON'T GIVE UP.

And you'll be ahead of most of the competition. Hey, I've got PROOF to back this up. My little patients. They're alive. Because they don't give up.

Or else they'll die.

So will you... and your business.

Interactive desktop catalogs may find some success.

Already, ebooks with dynamic content are found here and there on the 'net. The article "Dynamically Update Your Ebooks with JavaScript" by Shelly Lowery at http://www.web-source.net/dynamically_update2.htm explains the fundamentals of creating such an ebook.

Using that or similar methods, dynamic desktop catalogs can be built. Catalog pages can be generated dynamically in response to search terms or clicks on links such as "Current Specials." Featured products can be updated as often as desirable. Ordering can be done directly from the catalog, with a built-in shopping cart.

Mm, this is such a good idea, I think I'll use it to present our Master Series CGI programs. I guess the future has just arrived :)

Before you begin... ANYTHING

... this is what you must ask yourself.

What's my PURPOSE?

The answer will be your touchstone during any crisis or setback. In moments of despair or gloom. When you begin to wonder if you're in it for the long haul - or not!

My purpose has always been clear as a beacon - to help kids with heart defects to LIVE.

Almost anything I do, online and off, works around this purpose.

At times the link may seem tenuous, hard to see, even far fetched. But they are always there, invisible to others, under the surface.

But real, in my mind.

Like my infamous EXPERIMENT IN SELFISHNESS that evoked mixed reaction in a short period. It too works towards my goal... to find what works.

So that I can put it to work where it really matters - to help save a child with congenital heart defects. Learn more about CHD here...

As the spam problem worsens, causing potential customers to use email less and less, increasing the chances of marketing messages to customers being filtered or inadvertently deleted, and incoming customer leads being lost, new tools will be developed.

These tools will have to be more discerning than the current crop of spam filters. Marketers will not tolerate false positives. One missed sale is one too many.

Consumers will demand an end to false positives, too, when popular media focuses on horror stories about lost opportunities, destroyed credit, missed deadlines with large financial impacts, ignorance of a looming family crisis, and other disastrous consequences of misfiltered email.

Better tools must be developed. And they will be developed.

It's your memes. And how they evolve.

Do YOU Zoom? Can you LEARN? And change with the new world around you that's in constant, ever rapidly worsening, flux?

In 1995, I answered YES.

And set out to build websites, market them, publish ezines, grow them, create ebooks, sell them, construct affiliate networks, nurture them... because I was building a memeplex for the future.

One that would let me solve a burning problem. Which is... click here!

A paradigm shift happens

Guru Speak:Jeff Mulligan, CB Mall

Do YOU Have An "eMarketing Trendz" Prediction?Share it with us. Email it to me - I'll even post it with a link to your site if it's great!

The Importance and Challenge of Human Contact on the Web

One of the main factors in a successful commerce web site
is the credibility of the site and its owner. People are
reluctant to do business with a web site that appears
amateur and/or gives no indication about who really owns
the site and who will back it up.

So why do so many web sites make it virtually impossible
for the potential customer to figure out who owns the site?

If you own a site and want to maximize sales, you need to
let people know who you are.

Ideally, this includes a real address and a phone number.

Admittedly, the thought of posting your personal phone
number on a site seems scary at first. When I first
decided to do it as an experiment, I reasoned that at
worst, I could simply remove it if I started getting crank
calls.

But that never happened. What did happen is that I
constantly get emails from people who become customers
because I have my phone number on the site. It evokes trust.

My site, CBmall, gets thousands of visitors every day. And
I haven't gotten a single bad phone call.

Sometimes people call up asking me for advice, but they
often end up buying something.

So here's the point: Try it. Put your phone number on your
site. Even if you are only part time, callers can always
leave a voice mail and you can get back to them.

You may be amazed to find out that your sales really do
increase when customers can see that there is a real human
being standing behind the bits and bytes.

Life changing paradigm shifts don't creep up on you inch by inch. Instead they BURST into your consciousness - like an avalanche, a tornado, a tsunami, a hurricane.

THE INTERNET - it made MY life different.

And I knew it would the very first time I logged on in December 1995.

Within days I became subliminally aware of the poweful potential of this medium to further my quest to help kids with heart defects. In the 8 years since, I've enjoyed pushing the limits of my imagination in exploiting this potential.

Memetic evolution has set in. Progressed. It has created a new organism. One that's not conventional, not traditional - but, well, different!

I love to experiment. To try out new things. New ways to get at a goal, to achieve an end.

It wasn't always like this. Doctors are notoriously staid and conventional. Almost BORING. Robotic, even.

I was too - until I identified a problem. One that could only be solved creatively. A problem with a terrible consequence.

Bloggers ramble.

Surgeons are succint.

I'm both.

So what you'll get here is a generous mixture of both.

In case you're going to be dropping by many times in the course of the day/night, I'll be blogging on the theme of "eMarketing Trends".

Some top marketers and entrepreneurs have shared their insight on where they see the future of eMarketing going. These comments and some of my own will form the kernel of this Heart Kids Blogathon event.

And of course, the real glamor and glitz will come from YOU.

Yes, I'd be delighted if you'll spare a moment to post your thoughts on any post that captures your interest - or even on the topic of Heart Birth Defects in kids.

Simply click on the "Comments" link at the end of each post and start typing.

Remember, this Blogathon is as much yours as it is mine...

Remarkable marketing at its very best. I'm terribly impressed - and you'll be too.

Step-by-step, follow my instructions:

1) Go to www.Google.com

2) type in (but don't hit return): "weapons of mass destruction"

3) Hit the "I'm feeling lucky" button, instead of the normal "Google
search" button

4) read what 'appears' to be a normal error message...

Yes, actually READ the error message. It's remarkable!

If for some reason it doesn't work the way I found it to work, here's where you can see what I saw on the results page at the time:

I'm the art ignoramus

See what people are calling ART

Janitor dumps trash art exhibit - By Associated Press, 6/24/2003

BOULDER, Colo. -- It's art to some, yes, but apparently not to the custodian who threw away the newest exhibit at the Boulder Public Library.

After being pulled out of the garbage, "My Favorite Place to Walk in Boulder: Or Found Trash Objects" officially opened Friday at the downtown library. The display features common trash found by University of Colorado art students in otherwise scenic spots citywide.

"This is a slightly different kind of art," said Karen Ripley, director of cultural programs. "It's not meant to be beautiful.

"One of the comments our maintenance guy made was that it smells," said Ripley, who saved the artwork.

Well, all I can say is that if art is becoming ugly and smelly, I'm glad I'm not a connoisseur - hope means what I'm thinking about!
