It was in 2000. Yes, 10 years ago. I had authored my first ebook in the Internet marketing niche, a guide to creating and publishing email newsletters. Looking back at over 100 ebooks I've written since then, I still think EZINE LAUNCH is my best work ever! Excited about the quality of my content, but clueless about getting buyers for my ebook, I decided to ask for help. I wrote an email to Allan Gardyne. For those of you who haven't heard his name, Allan is the affiliate uber-guru. A genius at affiliate marketing who is super-affiliate for most big launches in the IM niche, and outside too. In my email, I offered Allan a "golden opportunity". I would let him sell my ebook to his list, and keep 50% of the profits. After hitting SEND, I spent the day in a rosy haze. In my naivete, I honestly expected Allan to jump at the chance - and sell hundreds of copies, flooding both our bank accounts with cash! A few hours later, those dreams were shattered. Allan's reply arrived in my inbox. He was sorry about not being able to accept my offer, and wished me luck with promoting EZINE LAUNCH. I was bitterly disappointed. Seethed with an undirected anger. Hurt from the pain of rejection. And after feeling sorry for myself for some time, I finally decided to pick up the broken pieces of my wild dreams - and do something with them. I-SALES was a huge discussion group for online sales at the time. I introduced my new ebook to the list - at a special launch price of $5.00 (yes, five bucks). Within minutes, the first sale came in. I WAS ECSTATIC! And terrified. Questions chased each other around my mind. Would the buyer like it? Would he think it was worthless? Would he ask for a refund? Would he steal it and sell it to others? Would he tear it to shreds on I-Sales? Until the first feedback came in, I lived - like every artist over the ages - through a thousand deaths. All those fears were unfounded. EZINE LAUNCH was a run-away hit. It has sold hundreds of copies since then. The price went all the way up to $147 - and was worth that, and more. Most important, it launched my Internet marketing career ...and that has been a wild ride in itself!
Looking back to that first JV offer I made Allan, I wonder what might have happened if he had accepted. And realize it would NOT have been good - for me. I took that initial 'rejection' as a challenge - and determined to succeed. I was forced to take steps to learn to sell - and in the process became a better marketer. I experienced the thrill of winning by my own effort and gained enormous self-confidence in the process. That's why I sometimes feel sad for newbies who are all the time seeking out that 'big win' right out of the box - and giving up if they don't get it, or even keep trying for it over and over again. You are missing out on your own latent potential if you do that. You are losing a chance to explore your limits and reach the boundaries of your capabilities. You are holding back your innate power and ability to succeed on a far bigger scale. Recently, I read this inspiring post by my friend, Gail Goodwin - it's called "Born To Fly" Read it. Get inspired today. And think about my first JV experience. See what lessons you can get from it. Use them in your own marketing future. The happy ending... Allan Gardyne and I have since grown to be good friends. He's one of the first to endorse and promote my next hit ebook, "Blog Profit Ideas Exposed" and his testimonial still graces the top of my sales page, 750+ sales later... He has also done much to spread word about my work with CHD awareness and to help children with heart defects receive life-saving surgery. And through his own stoic and brave style while tackling a life-threatening illness which required a very risky treatment called bone marrow transplant, Allan Gardyne taught me very valuable life lessons about attitude and success. Allan Gardyne has touched my marketing life in so many ways, it's hard to explain it all in an email. You can learn more about the man, while increasing your knowledge about affiliate marketing, by signing up to get his ezine - I've been reading it since around 1998. It's called 'Associate Programs Newsletter' at If you do, and participate in his forum, tell him Dr.Mani sent you
P.S. - Strange enough, Allan never did promote EZINE LAUNCH!
If you'd like to read it (it's no longer for sale), you can see the old sales page to learn more And if you want a copy (all of it may not be relevant but you'll still get more than enough value for your money!), send your payment of $47 by PayPal to info (at) ezinemarketingcenter (dot) com - and mention that it is for EZINE LAUNCH.
